Four more subways to come up in city
Times of India: Along with the decision to go ahead with the subway construction at Good Luck chowk, the Pune Municipal Corporation standing committee on Tuesday approved four more subways.
The standing committee unanimously decided that construction work on the Good Luck chowk subway should be carried out, despite opposition to the same by some organisations. “Also, new subways will come up at Karvenagar near Karve education society; Mohanrao Shiralkar road in Dahanukar colony; Hotel Kinara in Paud and near Bharati Vidyapeeth in Paud. We will start work on these subways soon,” standing committee chairman Nilesh Nikam said while speaking to reporters.
The committee asked the civic administration to make its stand clear on the Good Luck subway to avoid any further confusion. BJP leader Vikas Mathkari said that some people were opposing the Good Luck chowk subway for personal interests, but the PMC will go ahead with the construction for benefit of pedestrians.
Meanwhile, the standing committee also approved laying of storm water drain system in various parts of the city. The project is expected to cost Rs 175 crore. “Taking up the issue of irregularities at octroi posts, the committee has asked the municipal administration to take immediate steps against those responsible for irregularities,” Nikam said.
