PMC launches online complaint redressal system for citizens
Indian Express: A couple of years ago, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had launched an online complaint redressal system for citizens. Around the same time, the senior civic officials were equipped with the costly BlackBerry mobile phones for easy and direct interaction with the civic staff as well as citizens. It was as if these moves failed to prove successful that the civic body has now decided to set up a 24×7 call centre for the citizens to register their complaints pertaining to civic issues.
On Friday, Zagade presented it in the annual budget for 2010-11. On this move, Zagade said, “Various civic departments receive complaints from all the nook and corners of the city. But there is no central agency, where people can register such complaints. Therefore, there is a plan to set up a call centre. Such complaints will be forwarded to the department heads for further action. The call centre will be run by a private agency and will function 24X7.”
PMC had tied up with Citizen Empowerment Forum (CEF) to register their complaint through the internet. The service has been available on www.ourpune.com set up by the forum. It had been launched after launching an SMS service for citizens to register their complaints and reduce the response time of civic administration.
“Even though the PMC has got online complaint redressal system and equipped their senior officials with the costly handsets, nothing much seems to happen after people register complaints pertaining to a civic issue. Therefore, I am doubtful whether this proposed call centre would also prove useful. Even though it would be run by a private agency, ultimately, it is the PMC’s job to deliver the results and redress the complaints. If that happens, it is well and good,” said Vijay Kumbhar, a civic activist and president of the Surajya Sangharsha Samiti.
During the budget, Zagade also said that there is also a plan to throw the civic offices open to people for meeting the civic officials after 3 pm daily.
“In order to increase the efficiency of various civic departments, we are planning to reserve the morning time for official work and planning,” he said.
