Nuisance Detection Squad – Ray of hope for a cleaner and healthier Pune

nospittingOnce known for its greenery and peaceful atmosphere, Pune is on the verge of losing its glory due to the over heaping dirt and filth in nooks and corner of the city. But before it is too late and the city resembles a garbage dump, the timely efforts of Pune Municipal Corporation have come to rescue. They have implemented a fine of Rs.1000 if caught littering, throwing household garbage on the roads, defecating on roads, dumping rubble in the river and putting up unauthorized posters. And if you can’t pay up the amount then be ready to clean your own mess.

In the wake of swine flu, this step will definitely benefit from stopping the disease to spread among masses. The execution of Nuisance detection squad is a big step towards keeping the city clean and pleasant. Apart from this it will also help the citizens breathe and stay healthy. One of the major reasons for the outbreak of several diseases in the city is the garbage and dirt spread all around. In fact, garbage has been a major concern for the city for a long time now and implementation of such rule will only contribute to solve the age old problem of trash and execution of waste management practices.

The implementation of nuisance detection squad is a sign of relief for the environmentalists who have been trying their best to keep the city clean. But in retrospection, it’s quite a shameful that instead of practicing cleanliness out of our own civic sense, we need a squad to remind us. And in spite of putting up boards all over requesting people not to spit or dirty the surroundings they just go ahead and do it anyways.

Also only certain sections of society litter the city is a false notion because even educated people indulge in the same bad habits. So there are no pointing fingers here. Therefore the only way to teach the incorrigible citizens is by inculcating the fine or punishment for the same. This may prevent these so called educated people from polluting the place as well.

The drive against people littering the place will take place in entire city and the PMC has asked 14 wards to take charge of the same. In fact the drive has been quite successful. In Hadapsar Gadital, a fine of Rs 12, 380 was collected in just 3 days.

The nuisance detection squad is a hope for Pune city to stay clean and restore its lost beauty and charm. The only question is will this squad continue to take strict actions all throughout or will it fade away with time. This is for us to know only in the days to come.
