Gultekdi market yard to have permanent centre for organic farm products
Indian Express: The Gultekdi market yard will soon have a permanent centre for organic farm products, Cooperatives Minister Harshavardhan Patil said.
Patil was speaking at Maha-Organic at the College of Agriculture, Pune.
“We are ready to give dedicated space for organic products,” Patil said.
He said that there is a need to market organic products to ensure their sales. “We will focus on marketing. The agriculture department will be given Rs 10 lakh to specifically market organic policies in the state,” Patil said. From the current coverage of around 6.5 lakh hectares, Patil also said that the state government will cover around 20 lakh hectares under organic farming.
The state government has also proposed a Rs 100 crore fund for increasing organic farming in Maharashtra. It is also fine-tuning an organic farming strategy for the state in the next three months.
