City-based energy company to produce small windmills to save electricity
Sakaal Times: In a first-of-its-kind development in India, city-based energy company Renewable Energy Services (RES) is part-manufacturing small windmills to enable individual households or commercial enterprises to install them and generate their own electricity, thus reducing the load on national and state electricity grids.
“We are all aware about the precarious power scenario in the country today. Not much is happening on enhancing energy generation capability immediately, while growing number of electronic and electrical home and industrial appliances means increased power consumption. This would help manage the power situation better,” RES head (operations) Pratap Joshi told Sakaal Times.
The company is importing the windmill and charge controller from a Canadian firm Cyclone, while here it is manufacturing the inverters, batteries and the tower required for the complete functioning of this windmill.
“We have 500 Watt to 10 kW (kilowatt) power generating capacity structures. These can generate electricity in the range of two to seven units. One windmill is good enough for one household. It can generate on an average 120 units per month. Average power load excluding heater and air conditioner is 100 to 150 units. This reduces the load,” Joshi said.
The cost ranges from Rs 1.4 lakh for 500 watt structure to Rs 20 lakh for 10 kW. There are bank finance schemes available. The government gives 50 per cent subsidy, while 80 per cent depreciation can be availed. There is also tax benefit on power generation.
“During the filing of income tax returns, the depreciation and money saved on power bill together could be shown for tax exemptions. So there is dual benefit – uninterrupted power supply and tax savings,” company co-owner and advisor Vasant Vaze said.
The space required to install these windmills on terrace is also very less. “Only one to two square feet is required to install the windmill. It will occupy the space required by one RCC column. For benefit of residents, builders can earmark installation space on the terrace as they do for parking,” Vaze said.
