Persian-Indian Sufi Music concert

Around nine works of Kiana A Khani will be displayed at Malaka Spice from today. She studied art in Iran before coming to India in 2001 for further studies. The paintings on display are influenced by culture, religion and heritage.

The Liquid Beings – Painting Exhibition

Artist Vaishali Oak is displaying her paintings – The Liquid Beings. The artist seeks inspiration through natue and lets forms flow on her handmade paper canvas. The artist also plays with watercolour and installation art.

Parikrama- Dance & Music Festival

Parikramaa,’ a two-day dance and music festival, will be held in the city to present much more than the obvious and common in classical dance and music.The event will be inaugurated at Yashwanrao Chavan auditorium at 5.30 pm by mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale and Bharat Natyam danseuse Leela Samson, with a Bharat Natyam performance by Chapekar’s senior disciples Alka Lajmi and Neelima Kadhe. This will be followed by Dhanashri Apte’s sequence on Nritya Ganga,’ a unique choreography conceptualised by Chapekar that comprises a synthesis of Bharat Natyam and Hindustani classical music.

There will also be Karnataka tal vadya kacheri’ by Shridhar Parthasarthi and group. It is a musical ensemble that is present only in Carnatic music a kind of a musical programme very common in south India. Theatre personalities Rajashree and Vaibhav Arekar, who have worked extensively with the late playwright Chetan Datar, will present Dwanda,’ a dance-drama based on the life and times of Amba, Ambika and Ambalika.

Samvaad,’ a symposium on contemporary issues related to Indian classical dance, will be held on November 29 at Abasaheb Garware hall from 9.30 am onwards. Stalwarts like Leela Samson, Anuradha Jonnalagadda (Kuchipudi danseuse), Kalamandalam Balasubramanian (principal of Kerala Kalamandalam) and Arekar will talk on various aspects of dance at the symposium that will convened by Chapekar.

Dance enthusiasts will be able to enjoy a bouquet of classical dance performances on the evening of November 29. Taking centre stage at Balgandharva Rangmandir from 6 pm onwards will be Samson, Jonnalagadda, Chapekar and the Kerala Kalamandalam group.

‘First Click’ – Photography Exhibition

For some individuals, photography is a window to look at this world from different perspectives & for some, it is an entrance for delivering abstract concepts to reality. Some individuals seek to transform the world through photography while some seek to capture the dynamism of this world.

A bunch of 10 Puneites, all sharing a passion for photography, converged at the House of Arts, Pune to study the finer techniques of photography & to hone their skills. It was during the workshop, the idea of exposing one’s creative endeavours to a larger audience in order to gain insight was discussed.

Over subsequent meet-ups of the group, this idea culminated into “First Click” – A photo exhibition which would showcase the works of this group. The exhibition will have on display photographs covering a gamut of categories such as wildlife, nature, landscape, abstract, night, automobile etc. all clicked by amateurs who seek to remain motivated with appreciation & improve themselves with constructive criticism

During the exhibition seminars would be conducted by leading experts to speak on the various fields of photography such as Wildlife, Architectural, Interior, Fashion and Automobile photography. This will provide amateurs a platform to interact with professionals & pursue their enthusiasm about photography.

Lingana Fort Climbing

Lingana is a fort brought into the light by Chhatrapati Shivaji. He used this fort for as a Prison for his prisoners. Without ropes one cannot trek it.

Shivaji Maharaj built it with Raigad after he defeated Chandrarao More. According to the treaty of Purandar Raigad and Lingana were retained by Shivaji Maharaj. The goddesses worshipped here were Shree Janani and Somjai. The fort was maintained along with Raigad. The money was provided from treasury of Raigad. It was maintained and looked after till 1786. Finally, in 1818, the British captured the fort and destroyed it so that no one could capture it back and stay on it. Thereafter the plight of this great monument has become sad. Today it is a great attraction for rock-climbers.

‘Visions in Clay’ – Exhibition

“Visions in Clay” is a stone ware ceramic exhibition showcasing the work of Veena Chandran. The unique pieces have been hand crafted at Golden Bridge Pottery in Pondicherry.

The exhibition will showcase functional stone ware items including mugs, vases, teapots, wall pieces and more. Also on display are tureens and jars that throw a funky angle to something that’s part of our everyday life and could make for original and very unique gifts.

The exhibition is a culmination of the Veena’s creative work and gives vision to her individual artistic streak.
