A museum dedicated to Bollywood legend Raj Kapoor is being built in Loni
Pune Mirror: Now, a new generation will be able to see the glamorous world of Bollywood legend Raj Kapoor. The museum of Raj Kapoor has been built at Loni in Rajbaug which is only 10 km away from Pune city. It will be the only museum of its kind in the country.
Raj Kapoor is famous for movies such as Barsaat (1949), Awaara (1951), Boot Polish, (1954), Shree 420 (1955), Mera Naam Joker (1970), etc. In Rajbaug, the construction of the Raj Kapoor memorial is taking place on five acres of land.
The life of Kapoor and scenes of his films are taking shape in this museum. Sanjay Sing, Sanjay Chatterji and Prashant Valukar, directors of Indian Traditional Cultural Centre are developing this museum. They have worked in the Ramoji film city and in theme park in Chennai and Hyderabad. Sing said that 100 artists are working towards this museum.
And it’s not just Raj… statues of Amitabh Bachchan, Rajendra Kumar, Vaijayanti Mala, Nargis, Shashi and Shammi Kapoor and many others are being immortalised here. Scenes from Awaara, Jis Desh Me Ganga Baheti Hai and Mera Naam Joker will be put up.
The museum will be situated in the 7 pagodas around Raj Kapoor’s bungalow. Rahul Karad, executive director of Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) said that Raj Kapoor’s will stated that he wished the land to be used for educational purposes or institutions.
“The land totally measures 30 acres, of which five are being used for the memorial,” Karad added.
