Cake shops get phone calls that are intended for the RTO
Indian Express: The owner and staff of the Monginis Cake Shop at Quarter Gate have an extra duty these days, apart from selling cakes and bakery items. On any given day, they receive around 10 calls, asking for the regional transport office (RTO). And this shop is not the only one in city to face such a situation — there is one more office that regularly gets phone calls that are intended for the RTO.
The story goes like this: The Pune RTO, which launched its official website more than a year ago, has put up a couple of telephone numbers on www.rtopune.info/contact.htm/ — to contact its headquarters in Shivajinagar. Only one of these three numbers is correct. The RTO website has goofed up with the digits — Instead of 26058090, it carries 26050809 and in place of 26058080, it gives 26050808.
When this reporter tried to contact the RTO on one of the numbers put up on the website, it was an employee of the cake shop who picked the call. When contacted again, proprietor Harish Tejwani was at the other end. “On a daily basis, we get eight to ten calls that are meant for the RTO. We are tired of attending these calls. We have time and again pointed this out to the authorities, but to no use. We have to file a written complaint on this,” he said.
Apart from the cake shop, an office that belongs to Sumer Homes Private Ltd in Koregaon Park also receives such calls. Jagan Deokar, an employee, said, “Starting from morning, on an average, we receive at least three calls asking for the RTO. I don’t know how we receive such calls.”
Senior official from RTO Amar Patil said, “We launched the website about one and a half year ago. I will soon access the website, check out myself and rectify the mistake.”
