1,300 participate in Lonavla run
The Times of India: Over 1,300 people participated in the Lonavla Run’ organised by the premier naval training establishment in the country, INS Shivaji, on Saturday to spread the message of environment care.
According to a press release issued by INS Shivaji, the run was conducted in seven categories — 8 km run for men and women separately, 3 km run for students from stds V to VII and from VIII to XII separately and another 3 km open category run. A large number of schools, colleges and other institutes participated in the event.
Commodore D.M. Deshpande, station commander, Lonavla, and commanding officer, INS Shivaji, flagged off the run at 7 am from Nausena Bagh ground and later presented the trophies and prizes to the winners.
The first prize winners are: Balwinder Singh of Tolani Maritime Institute (8 km men), Banashri Patade of the police training school (8 km women), Narnavar Somnath of Valvan School (3 km senior boys), Neelam Shingade of Valvan college (3 km senior girls), Sunil of K.V. Lonavla (junior boys), Shelja Thakur, K.V. Lonavla (junior girls), S.S. Kate of the police training school (3 km open category).
The run was organised as a prelude to the silver jubilee celebrations of the naval engineering course at INS Shivaji. The celebrations will culminate on November 21.
