Sweden Comes to Pune
The city of Pune is all set to witness a day-long programme of activities on October 31, to launch The Sweden-India Nobel Memorial Week 2009 in India. The day comprises a Quiz, a Nobel Lecture and an Opera Performance by Swedish Opera singers in the city.
“There is a strong connection between the city of Pune and Sweden. The number of Swedish companies in Pune is the second highest in any Indian city, we have similar goals when it comes to development issues and have a very eager and supportive partner in the Pune Municipal Corporation, and then of course there is culture aspect which Pune is famous for,’’ said Ambassador Lars-Olof Lindgren. “It is therefore very important for us to flag off the Sweden India Nobel Memorial Week 2009 in this city which we are so connected with.”
The ‘Nobel Memorial Day’ begins with an intercollegiate quiz on The Nobel for Pune colleges. This will be held at Symbiosis International University. The winning trophy will be handed out by Mr Mahesh Zagade, Commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation along with HE Lars-Olof Lindgren, Ambassador of Sweden to India.
The Quiz will be followed by a lecture and panel discussion on Meeting the Water Challenge under Rapid Global Environmental Change by Dr Johan Rockström, CEO of Stockholm Environment Institute and Stockholm Resilience Centre.
The day will end with an Opera performance by Swedish opera singers in a concert organised by the Pune Music Society.
In its third edition, the weeklong celebrations hosted by the Embassy of Sweden, has moved outside of Delhi and to Pune, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai as well and are strung together by the Nobel thread around the broad themes of creativity and innovation.
