Sapling survival: Bicycle rally as part of awareness campaign

Sakaal Times: School children participated in large numbers in a bicycle rally that was organised here on Sunday morning to create awareness about the need for survival of around 2000 saplings being planted at Panchavati Hills in Pashan under the Art Of Living initiative-Mission Green Earth.

The activists of Mission Green Earth and Panchavati Hills Action Team had arranged this awareness campaign, wherein active participation from nearby residents was also sought in order to ensure the survival and growth of these saplings.

The children in the rally carried placards with messages and drawings encouraging citizens to participate in the project. They also met the residents of several housing societies nearby on a one-on-one basis and informed them about the massive plantation done at Panchavati Hills.

Under the Mission Green Earth project, students from as many as 40 schools in the city grew the saplings at their homes with aid and guidance from the Art Of Living activists between January and June, this year.

These plants were subsequently planted on a terrain at Panchavati Hills in Pashan.

‘Young Buzz’, a children’s weekly and club from Sakaal Media Group, was the media partner for this nature-related project.

The coordinator of the project, Nitin Pradhan, told Sakaal Times that the bicycle rally that was organised received an enthusiastic response from the people and large numbers of residents have agreed to become part of the Mission Green Earth initiative.

“Many residents expressed their love for the environment and promised to take care of regularly watering the plants and other share of the needed efforts for survival of saplings,” he said.
