Bagwe, Nimhan eye state cabinet berths

Sakaal Times: Even as third-term and second-term Congress-NCP MLAs from the city are in an upbeat mood, hoping to get into the cabinet, this time round what political circles have their eyes set on is whether Ajit Pawar will throw his hat in the ring for the post of deputy chief minister.

Political observers and party workers are also keeping fingers crossed over a Pune city MLA getting a ministerial berth after a long gap.

Both Congress MLAs from Pune _ Ramesh Bagwe and Vinayak Nimham _ will have no claims over what ministry they are given as long as they are included in the Cabinet, political workers say.

This is the third time in succession that Bagwe and Nimhan have made it to the state assembly, but it would be the first time for Nimhan as a Congressman, officially.

Both represent different camps in the Congress and will pursue different paths to get into office.

Bagwe’s fate will depend largely on how much influence his mentor Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi will exert on the high command, while Nimhan will bank on his mentor Narayan Rane to see him through to a ministry.

Among senior ministers looking for key portfolios would be Harshavardhan Patil of the Congress and Dilip Walse Patil of the NCP.

Harshvardhan is aiming at the high profile revenue department and Walse Patil, very curiously is keen to get back to the much criticised energy portfolio, it was stated.

While not much might have happened by way of actual electricity generation during his previous term at the energy ministry, there was plenty of ground work Walse Patil did at that time, that is going to bear fruits now, his supporters say.
