Low impact: Advani avoided rally in Pune

Sakaal Times: Poor response to the rally in Pimpri was indication enough on why the state BJP avoided a public rally of its senior leader LK Advani in Pune. It feared that the huge spending for Advani’s rally in the city would not be fetch the expected impact.

On October 4, Sakaal Times had reported that Advani and Gujarat CM Narendra Modi would not address any rally in the city. A BJP leader had cited Advani’s image and his appeal to urban voters as reasons for avoiding his rally in the city.
Hence, the state BJP decided to organise Advani’s rallies in ‘less exposed’ areas like Pimpri, Vashi, Dharmabad and Aurangabad. A BJP leader who accompanied Advani to the rally admitted it was a poor show. He said, “Only Modi and Raj pull crowds in urban and semi-urban areas. For a rally of a leader of Advani’s stature, the party spends 10-15 lakh rupees. This huge expenditure is not giving returns in cities like Pune. Hence the state BJP avoided his rally in the city.”
