Post CYG, road projects crawl despite funds
Indian Express: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) which had received accolades from various quarters for speedy road development work worth Rs 270 crore in the city ahead of the Commonwealth Youth Games, is now struggling to keep the momentum going.
Although the civic body has cash in hand, delay in acquisition of land on Sinhagad Road and Paud Road has made work worth Rs 102 crore under JNNURM crawl at a snail’s pace.
The civic administration last year carried out road development work on a 35-km stretch from Lohegaon Airport to Baner Balewadi sports complex along Karve Road and Shivaji Road for the CYG. The project was completed in record time. “We are carrying out all possible development work on other roads funded under JNNURM. The deadline for completing the work is February 2010, but it is suffering due to delay in acquiring land,” said Vinay Deshpande, officer on special duty for JNNURM works in the city.
