Festive season pushes up vehicle sales four-fold
Indian Express: Instead of around 70 cars and around 200 two-wheelers being registered daily, the number has climbed to almost 300 cars and 700 two-wheelers a day. The RTO was working even on Sunday to cater to the large number of new owners and the rush is expected to continue till Tuesday. This is an improved showing over the previous year when the recession blues began to bite in the shape of reduced number of vehicles being registered, an officer said.
“On a regular day, we register a maximum of around 70 cars and around 250 two-wheelers. Since Friday, the numbers of car registrations has been around 250-300 while we are registering around 600-700 two-wheelers as well,” said Gopal Dengale, Assistant RTO.
On Monday, Nitin Lalwani changed his old car for a new one on the occasion of Dussehra. “It being an auspicious day, we decided to sell the old car and get a new one,” he said. Dussehra is considered to be one of the auspicious days for purchasing vehicle, besides Gudi Padawa, Diwali and Akshaya.
Not only was there a rush among buyers to get their vehicles delivered on Monday, show rooms reported a wave of bookings as well.
“This year, the run-up to Dussehra was very good in terms of bookings, better than last year, and all of them wanted us to deliver it on Monday. We made over 135 deliveries. In September, our total sales will cross 300, which will be our best showing in the last three years,” said Vishal Kothari, CEO of Kothari Wheels, a Maruti dealer.
With many finance companies offering attractive schemes in this festival season, most car dealers were upbeat. “In the last few months, we have seen an increase in sales, but Dussehra is a big day for deliveries because of the special muhurut ,” said Kiran Sharma, senior sales manager, Sai Services, dealers for Maruti.
Dealers said the Dussehra sales could well be a good platform for the next few months. “The deliveries were double of what we made last year,” said a senior sales executive of B U Bhandari, a Tata Motors dealer. “It is a good sign for us. It is something we can build upon for the next few months,” he said.
