Shake-o-Holic
Have you ever done that before? You know, skipped lunch to feast on and make room for some more desserts. Well that’s exactly what I ended up doing last week. The place is called Shake-o-Holic and it’s located exactly opposite Bread Story in Koregaon Park. The name of the outlet fascinated me and lured me inside to find out what the place had to offer. It did not prove to be the wisest of decision because I was starving and I had just entered a junk food heaven.
Primarily a milkshake bar, Shake-o-Holic serves around 15 different types of milkshakes which have equally interesting names. Names like Monkey Milk Shake, Brandy Velvet, Rum and Chocolate and Chocolate Buzz sure got my mind bells ringing. I finally settled for the Chocolate Buzz, partly because I love chocolate and partly for its cool name. And within a few minutes, the drink was on my table. Dark chocolate flakes covered the brim of the huge glass, lavishly topped over a thick layer of ice-cream and at the bottom was a rich combination of chocolate and milk. After I was done appreciating the presentation, I dug in my spoon to test the “yummy” quotient of the shake and yummy it was. The ice-cream, chocolate and milk made for a great combination and the shake got my taste-buds buzzing thus living up to its funky name.
Apart from shakes, the menu offers a multitude of desserts, beverages and snacks. To explain this interesting combination of milkshake and snacks, Rohit Mahtani, the owner of the shop said, “There is nothing quite as refreshing and tasty as a tall, frothy milkshake on a hot afternoon. But I’m also combining it with delicious food & desserts. So we serve a range of veg. & non veg. sandwiches, milkshakes, malts, coolers, teas & desserts”.
When it comes to ambience, the place has a retro feel to it. The decor is laid back and relaxed. The outlet is quite small and has only 4-5 small tables inside which make it difficult to fit its ever growing customer base. But the staff is friendly and the service is quick. As far as the rates are concerned, I think the food items are a little expensive. The milk shakes start from Rs.60 and goes up to Rs.90. The sandwiches are priced between Rs.50 to Rs.75 while the desserts come with a price top of Rs.50-60. Nonetheless, the place is definitely a hit with good food lovers and looking at this positive response, Mahtani is looking at opening another branch of the outlet in Kalyani Nagar very soon.
