FDA will issue a identity cards to milk distributors and delivery boys
Pune Mirror: To control milk adulteration, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will issue a identity cards to milk distributors and delivery boys.
In the past three months, Maharashtra police and FDA have busted two adulteration rackets, one each in Mumbai and Pune.
S K Patil, joint director, FDA, said, “Farmers and dairy owners do not adulterate milk. It is done at collection centres.
So, collection centres must take identity cards from FDA. There have been many complaints that dairies are not mentioning manufacturing and expiry dates on milk pouches. As per state government resolution, this is mandatory for all dairies.”
Patil added, “We found that rejected milk samples make their way to other dairies. This information is not shared with FDA officials. If we get this information in time, we will be able to curb milk adulteration.”
Dr Abhijit Vaidya, founder member of Aarogaya Sena, said, “Milk adulteration is slow poisoning. The state government should hand over such cases to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) because the police cannot investigate the matter impartially.
To handle milk adulteration cases, the state must establish special fast-track courts and harsh punishment should meted out to culprits.”
