City surgeon invited to SAARC conference
Sakaal Times: City-based obesity and metabolic surgeon Dr Shrihari Dhorepatil has been invited by the Sri Lanka College of Surgeons to deliver a plenary lecture on surgery for ‘diabetes and metabolic syndrome’ at the annual academic session of the international conference of the Surgical Care Society of SAARC countries, this weekend.
Dr Dhorepatil, who pioneered the concept of bariatric and metabolic surgery in India, is the first surgeon to perform gastric stapling, gastric banding and gastric bypass surgeries for weight loss in morbidly obese patients way back in 1999. He has perfomed more than 500 surgeries since then.
He is the managing director of Shree Hospital, Pune, and consultant surgeon at Jehangir (Apollo) and Noble hospitals in Pune and the Fortis Hiranandani hospital in Navi Mumbai. He is the honorary president of the Obesity Surgery Society of India, and vice president of the International College of Surgeons, Indian chapter.
