Now, voter registration at LPG agencies, rationing shops

Times of India: District collector Chandrakant Dalvi on Wednesday said that forms for voter registration and submission of photos have been made available at all domestic LPG cylinder agencies, rationing shops and authorised kerosene shops in the city. He said that voters could submit their photographs and forms at these places when they registered for an LPG cylinder or shopped at the ration shops.

Dalvi said this was one of the initiatives he had adopted in order to encourage voters to submit their photographs for a voter identity card as well as be included on the voter’s list.

He said, “If a voter does not hold a voter I-card, he or she has to fill up the form and submit a photo. The voter can also submit a photo of family members, if their names are not in the voter’s list.”

Dalvi said, “More than 26 lakh voters from the district still have not submitted their photos. Because of this, the voter’s list has remained incomplete. A special drive till July 22 has been initiated in the district to increase the inclusion of photos on the voter’s list. Around 1,82,000 photos have been collected from voters till date.”

Elaborating on the initiatives, Dalvi said that he had appealed to housing societies, industrial units as well as IT companies to initiate the process of registration and photo-submission of residents and employees. Also, an online set up has been erected in each of the assembly constituencies for on-the-spot issuing of voter I-cards on submission of a photo. The administration also has taken up home-to-home drives with digital cameras ready to take photos. The voter can approach offices of the assistant returning officers (ARO) for submission of the photographs.

“Of the 18 lakh registered voters in the city, over 45% still have to submit their photos. We appeal to voters to register their names as well as submit photos for the voter list. The final draft of the revised voter’s list will be published on July 22,” said Dalvi.
