International workshop on Nanotechnology from July 9



Times of India: With nanotechnology emerging as a frontier research area due to its enormous promise of novel applications in diverse fields of human endeavour and intense research in progress worldwide, the NCL, Pune, has decided to organise an international workshop on Nanotechnology and Advanced Functional Materials’ from July 9 to July 11.

The workshop is a part of National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, programme to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee this year. The NCL is organising this workshop along with The Materials Research Society of India (MRSI, Pune Chapter), and the Indian Institute of Science and Education Research (IISER, Pune). A number of eminent scientists from India and abroad will take active part in this workshop.

The workshop aims to highlight how nanotechnology and functional materials, which are vehicles for implementations of applications, relate to and reinforce one another.

Plenary talks will be given by CNR Rao, director of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, scientific advisor to the Prime Minister and chairman of nano mission, department of science and technology, and many distinguished experts, including Paul Weiss of Pennsylvania State University; Anupam Madhukar of University of Southern California; Ajay Sood of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

There will also be 15 oral presentations and about 200 poster presentations. About 250 scientists, professors and students will be participating in the workshop.

The inaugural function will be held at the NCL auditorium on Thursday between 8.30 am and 10 am.
