“Love for art always keeps me cool and mentally strong”
For Krishna, painting was more than a calling. Right from his childhood, he had an inclination towards art and as a series of events that further affirmed his belief transpired, he took to painting as more than a hobby or a profession; it became his life.
Krishna has more than fifteen exhibitions to his name and his latest work was recently on display at the Malaka Spice Art Gallery in Pune. In these paintings, Krishna has tried to bring out the different shades of the emotions and feelings of Indian women.
The Punekar caught up with Krishna for an interview at this recent exhibition.
How did you get into painting?
I credit my love for painting to my father who was an artist. I particularly remember him experimenting with linocuts and how he allowed me to try out his pastels when I was young.
How long you have been doing this?
I am in this field for the last 12 years.
What inspired you to be a painter?
I saw a painter (my father) at work and wondered how he got a job which was so much fun. He of course worked really hard like any other artists, but painting gave him that extra room for creativity and fun.
So it was my father who influenced me a lot to become a painter while growing up and made sure that there was a right balance of academics as well as art in my life.
How can we popularise Fine Art? With creativity, a little silliness and different colour combination we can make every artwork more impressive. Your current theme of the painting which is going on in Malaka Spice and how did that idea come about?
I am always looking for an opportunity to develop my skills. I keep my eyes open for ideas and have a binder handy to save pictures and sketches. As an artist, I have always been intrigued by the women living in villages, particularly their expressions, their way of dressing and their culture. So in my latest work, I have tried to capture the emotions and expressions of Indian women.
Tell us something about your paintings?
I have been painting since my childhood days. In my paintings the focus is on creativity and experimentation with different colour combinations.
What are you working on right now?
The theme of my current paintings is the life of the women in villages.
How do you get your ideas for painting and what mental processes are involved in its development?
I get inspiration from my love for the environment and the village culture. I remain humble and modest towards all my subjects. My love for art always keeps me cool and mentally strong and always on a lookout to find something creative to paint.
What advice you would like to give to an artist just starting out?
Just take a canvas and draw. Paint anything creative and try to make a mark in the world of Fine Art. Try to make the world a better place through your creations.
