Pune hotel management student wins culinary scholarship in London

Times of India: Hrishikesh Desai, a hotel management graduate from Pune, has won the prestigious Roux Scholarship for the year 2009. Considered to be one of the best British competitions for chefs below 30 years, which also represents the very best of Britain’s young chefs, Hrishikesh has won the scholarship in London.

The scholarship includes a variety of awards and experiences, along with a cash prize of 5,000 pounds and a set of global knives worth 1,000 pounds. Hrishikesh will also get an opportunity to cook and train under a leading chef at a prestigious European hotel for three months.

Hrishikesh will also receive a week’s training in a New York restaurant and an all-expense paid trip to Champagne Gosset, one of the oldest champagne houses in Ay, France. He will also get a chance to visit the Caffe Musetti roasting factory in Milan, Italy.

A former student of Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Hotel Management and Catering Institute, Hrishikesh graduated with a diploma in hotel management and catering technology in 1999, with a first class. Soon after, he received a one-month training scholarship sponsored by the Alliance Francaise de Poona.

Later, Hrishikesh did the advance diploma of culinary arts at Ecole in France for two years. Since June 2003, he has been working as sous chef in Lucknam Park Hotel at Bath, UK. He is the second Indian to receive this scholarship after Praveen Sharma in 2006.
