Voter assistance booths to help voters locate their polling booths
Sakaal Times: The administration will be setting up voter assistance booths in buildings where there are more than three polling stations to help the voters locate their respective polling booths on the election day.
“There will be a particular person having the voters’ list in alphabetical order starting with surname. The list will be in English. At places where there are two polling stations, the list will be available with the presiding officer. Their role would be to guide voters in locating their polling booth on election day to facilitate smooth voting process,” Special Land Acquisition Officer-VI and Coordination Officer for Electoral Rolls, Lok Sabha Elections, 2009 Rupali Awale told Sakal Times.
The personnel handling the voters’ list have been trained in reading the list and locating the names quickly. This will help reduce the booth location time for the voters and prevent any possible unrest.
“Those being deployed are Booth Level officers (BLOs), who have prior knowledge about the lists as they were involved in preparation and updating of the list. From this year, the Election Commission has made provision for BLOs, who will be responsible for voters’ assistance and updating voters’ roll,” Awale said.
A Booth Level Officer was entrusted with the responsibility for preparation of electoral rolls, address verification, house-to-house enumeration for one polling booth area in the city.
