Suresh Kalmadi launches hi-tech election campaign
Indian Express: Congress candidate Suresh Kalmadi on Monday launched a hi-tech campaign with a specially designed mobile van installed with LCD television sets and computers.
The new van also enables him to reach out to voters through his website, blog and facebook.
“Pune is known as an Information Technology city with a large chunk of its population being net savvy. Thus, a hi-tech campaign using new technology has been launched to reach out to the maximum voters,” Kalmadi said at a press conference.
He said a special mobile van with four TV sets would move around the city and his speech would be telecast from the van. He would tell people about the development work he had carried out.
The vehicle also has an LCD which displays messages supporting Kalmadi. Two computers have been installed for the convenience of voters to verify their names on the electoral list. Any voter can type in his name on the computers and check whether it is there on the voter list, he said.
“The voters can also interact through mobile service and my blog,” Kalmadi said, adding that the citizens have been urged to participate in drafting a document vision 2020 for the development of the city.
The website, www.sureshkalmadi.org, will have an update of his election campaign along with a photo gallery. The website carries information on the various social activities carried out by Kalmadi. It has messages from prominent personalities for supporting the Congress candidate.
The website also carries a photograph of NCP chief Sharad Pawar addressing a public rally to show support for the candidature of Kalmadi.
Not lagging behind much far are BJP candidate Anil Shirole and BSP candidate D S Kulkarni, who have launched their websites for the convenience of voters.
