Devotees gather at Dehu on the occassion of Tukaram Beej
Times of India: Over two lakh devotees from all over the state converged at the temple town of Dehu on Thursday on the occasion of Tukaram Beej, the day Sant Tukaram left for his heavenly abode 360 years ago.
The devotees took a holy dip in the Indrayani river and participated in various programmes during the day.
The rituals began around 4 am and continued till noon, when the devotees showered flowers on the spot from where Sant Tukaram is believed to have left for the heavenly abode as sounds of bhajans and kirtans rent the air. The devotees performed pooja of the padukas and the palkhi.
Among those who were present on the occasion included MP Balasaheb Vikhe-Patil, Halevi tehsildar Vijay Patil and president of the Sant Tukaram temple Bapusaheb Dehukar.
Vikhe-Patil said the government has announced a grant of Rs 15 lakh for publishing the ‘Sant Tukaram Gatha’ at an affordable price. Rs 5 lakh has been released and the remaining amount will be disbursed shortly.
The state transport, and the PMPML plied additional buses to clear the extra rush of passengers on Thursday.
