Special diploma course to bridge gap between academics and industry
Sakaal Times: Auto major Mercedes-Benz (MB) India in association with the Government Polytechnic Pune (GPP) is running a special diploma course with an aim to bridge the gap between the academic knowledge of automobile engineering students and industry requirements.
“Technological advances are changing the face of the automobile industry and to sustain in this tough environment one has to be updated with the changing technology, both at manufacturer level or at retailer level. Keeping this in mind, we are running an Advanced Diploma in Automotive Mechatronics for automobile engineering students,” Divisional manager After-Sales – Mechatronics and course in-charge Siegfried Mueller told Sakaal Times.
“This is a first of its kind initiative of Public-Private Partnership. The course content, methodology, the training car, aggregates and special tools are provided by Mercedes-Benz. Two lecturers were also trained by MB India, An Expatriate (German) trainer is provided by MB and CIM for smooth running of the course. Started in 2006, MB India has made a one time investment of around Rs 2 crore,” Deputy General Manager, After Sales – Training, MB India, Shrikant Deshmukh said. Entry qualification for the course is diploma/degree in Mechanical/Electronics/Instrumentation engineering. Admission starts in June every year. 20 candidates via a Common Entrance Test.
