New autos to run on gas in district

Sakaal Times: The Pune regional transport authority (RTA) has decided to issue new auto rickshaw permits for Baramati, Daund, Indapur and Solapur. It will also ensure that these new autos run on CNG or LPG, RTA Chairman and divisional commissioner Dilip Bund informed on Monday.

While 100 new permits would be given each for Baramati, Daund and Indapur, 50 permits would be given for each talukas in Solapur (except south Solapur). If CNG or LPG is not available, then the vehicles would run on petrol, Bund said. “But the companies have assured that LNG and CNG would be made available in those areas shortly,” he added.

He also informed that beginning from March, a crackdown would start on autos with rural permits plying in urban areas and on autos plying with more passengers than allowed.

“Police, regional transport office, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporations would be involved in the crackdown. The erring drivers would be dealt with severely,” Bund warned. In the first instance, Rs 6000 fine would be imposed, second time the fine amount would be Rs 10,000 and after, the vehicle would be seized.
