Pune is having a culturally rich and musical weekend this week. With a three day long music festival providing a platform to the musicians in the city called Gaaja Baajaa and two shows featuring names like Sameep Kulkarni and Pt. Ronu Majumdar are being held this weekend as well. This weekend sees a trio from JJ return to Pune for a second art show!

Gaajaa Baajaa

Ishanya Mall at Golf Course Road will be holding a one of a kind fest called “Gaajaa Baajaa”. The fest will have an archival photo exhibition and a spot saved for any and every musician who would like to perform impromptu. The photo exhibition has been divided in to three parts, one focuses on vocalist Hazmat Hussain Khan, the second section is based on early Jazz. The third one is an interesting collection provided by the Indian Society of Record Collectors, this section will showcase rare record covers, catalogues and photographs of old instruments. The event has been organised by Underscore Records, which is Shubha Mudgal’s company and co-organised by ‘tabla’ exponent, Aneesh Pradhan. The good news is they plan to make it an annual event, if that is to happen musicians in Pune will have one more platform to flaunt what plays in the head.

Metamorphosis Within 2

The trio of painters who are alumni of JJ School of Arts have hit the Pune audiences with another collection of their paintings capturing the changes or the “Metamorphosis Within”, the artists.

Trek at Kothaligarh

A trek to Kothaligarh in Karjat has been organised by Holiday Adventures. The fees for the trek are Rs.525 per person. The fees include breakfast, lunch, tea and transport. Trekkers are expected to carry a water bottle, sun cap, shades and sports shoes. Anyone above 11years of age can participate in this trek. The Pune Design Foundation has organised India Design Festival in Pune with a dream of making Pune the design hub of the country. This fest will see designers from across the globe, under one roof. The city of Pune has a one – third share in the country’s design industry it sure is an exciting time coming its way.

Sitar and Jaltarang Jugalbandi

Aperture India Art Gallery will see two maestros Sameep Kulkarni on ‘sitar’ and Milind Tulankar on ‘jaltarang’ play this Saturday evening. Sameep has earned repute as a modern day musician for his unique style of playing the instrument and for bringing about so many variations to the art. He has about 250 videos on You Tube and enjoys national and international fan following. Milind Tulankar born in a musician’s family has been at his art since a very tender age. The duo will be accompanied on ‘tabla’ by Hindol Majumdar from Calcutta.

S.B. Deshpande Memorial Concert

A musical concert will be held at the Tilak Smarak Mandir in memory of S.B. Deshpande. The concert will see a solo performance of ‘tabla’ by Supreet Deshpande accompanied by Ajay Joglekar on harmonium. Also, Pt. Ronu Majumdar will enthrall the audiences with his flute accompanied by Satyajeet Talwalkar on ‘tabla’. The passes for the concert are available at the venue, priced at Rs.50, Rs.100 and Rs.150.
