City-based company develops a disaster management software
Times of India, Pune: With a view to tackle and manage natural and man-made calamities effectively, a city-based IT company, Vritti Solutions Limited, has developed a disaster management software, which recently won the ‘Microsoft rural innovation fund’ award for its applications.
Called the SOS-ICS (Save Our Soles – Incident Command System), the software has been designed on ‘information and communication’ base. The software covers various stages of the disaster management, which includes preparedness, monitoring, early warning, search, rescue and rehabilitation.
The software has been designed to establish communication between the government, the affected people and other machinery in the calamity-struck area for supply of the basic data required. The software processes this data and gives a search-rescue and rehabilitation plan for the disaster-hit place.
Ajay Bedre, V-P of Vritti Solutions, told TOI, “Lack of accurate information about the disaster-hit areas and lack of communication between government and the affected population leads to mismanagement. The SOS-ICS will help in controlling chaos in such areas by providing quick information about the extent of devastation and best feasible solution for the situation at hand.”
Virendra Jamdade, CEO of the company said that the SOS-ICS will continuously monitor the threat parameters. With the available data, the software will quickly analyse the disaster-affected areas and population. Considering the extent of damage, it will identify and focus on priority areas. The online data will be made available to all the departments and it will also establish a two-way communication between the team on field and in control room. It will also support the rescue mobilisation activities.
“The company plans to supply the software to different government departments across the country. This will also help in process of data upgradation at the district level,” Jamdade said.
